Welcome to my portfolio

My name is Zuneid Issufo Bacar

I'm an IT Engenineer

I got my bachelor’s degree from University of Coimbra. I am from Maputo Mozambique and currently living in Coimbra, Portugal. My areas of interest are AI, Backend Development, Data Analysis,Business Intelligence and Distributed systems. I am familiar with languages such as Python, Java, JavaScript, SQL, C, C++ and C#.

I am fluent in Portuguese and English, and can read and write both languages proficiently.

Some of my projects

Artificial Intelligence

I have developed several AI-related projects, including machine learning models, reactive agents and neural network experiments. These projects focus on solving problems using intelligent systems. The GIF shown is a result of an evolutionary algorithm I implemented to generate simple AI agents that learn to navigate a 2D environment where the goal is to land the spaceship between the flags. The same problem was tackled using a reactive agent. Other Projects include audio analysis to identify the spoken digit using machine learning and backpropagation neural networks.

Data Analysis

Projects involving sales data analysis and audio signal processing, focused on extracting meaningful information from different types of datasets. Work includes data cleaning, transformation, feature extraction, analysis, and visualisation using clear and intuitive charts and dashboards. Audio projects emphasise understanding and extracting key signal characteristics to analyse sound patterns. Projects involving metadata-rich datasets focus on understanding the relevance of each data field, applying appropriate encoding techniques, and preparing data effectively for further analysis or machine-learning workflows.

Distributed Systems and Backend Development

Project focused on building and managing distributed systems with microservices architectures and scalable applications. Emphasis on designing systems that can handle high availability, fault tolerance, and efficient communication between services. In this project, a search engine was developed with each component providing services, where each service is responsible for a specific functionality such as indexing, querying, and crawling. This project also features WebSocket integration for real-time updates and notifications.

Multimedia Information Retrieval

Project focused on designing a music-based Multimedia Information Retrieval (MIR) system capable of analysing, indexing, and retrieving audio using meaningful musical features. This includes extracting characteristics such as tempo, timbre, spectral features, rhythm patterns, and tonal descriptors to allow efficient similarity searches and music classification. The system incorporates audio signal processing, feature engineering to enable queries such as “find similar songs” and profile matching. This project highlights my experience with MIR pipelines, feature extraction, and building systems that understand and organise multimedia content.

Database Design, Management & Optimization

Project centred on database fundamentals. From conceptual and logical modelling . Work included designing efficient schemas using normalization and relational modellings and optimizing query execution plans to ensure good performance when accessing data. The project also involved a managing transactions, ensuring data integrity and optimization of the database for its intended use cases. This experience strengthened my skills for building reliable, and well-structured data solutions suited for real-world applications.

Tetris Game Recreation

Recreated the classic Tetris game in 3D , using c++ , open GL and open frameworks , featuring accurate piece rotation, collision detection, line-clearing logic, scoring, and game states. Added dynamic lighting, textures, and skins, enhancing visual depth. Strengthened skills in graphics programming, event-driven design, game loops, and algorithmic problem-solving.

About Me

I’m an IT Engineering graduate originally from Maputo, Mozambique, now based in Coimbra, Portugal, where I completed my bachelor’s degree at the University of Coimbra. My main interests lie in backend development, AI and distributed systems, and I’m continuously working to deepen my skills. With my degree completed, I’m excited to take the next step into the professional world and contribute meaningfully to the tech industry. I enjoy challenges whether in coding, problem-solving, or different types of puzzles as they help me sharpen my skills and gain new perspectives.

I enjoy solving and collecting different types of Rubik’s Cubes, from the classic 3×3 to more complex and uniquely shaped puzzles. Beyond being a hobby, it’s an activity that strengthens my pattern recognition, algorithm memorization, and understanding of how simple principles can evolve into complex systems. It also nurtures my creativity and each puzzle encourages me to look at problems from new angles and think of elegant, efficient solutions, much like the process I follow in projects.
